Far from being an over-populated and impoverished planet, the middle of this century could see the world transformed for everyone with enough food, clean water, medicines, fuels, and polymers for all – and with these produced from sustainable resources. 

Creating such a world is possible, but it will require dedicated men and woman chemists and new style chemical, pharmaceutical, and agrochemical industries. John Emsley explains how together we could create a healthy, wealthy and sustainable Britain and set an example to the world.
